Getting Heritage DA Approval Success for a heritage or conservation property is no easy task. There are a lot of rules to follow, a lot of boxes to tick, and it can quickly start to feel overwhelming.
That’s where we come in.
At Distinct Innovations, this is the kind of challenge we deal with all the time. Our recent project, Creewood III in Concord, is a great example of how the right approach can turn a complicated process into a smooth and successful one.

Creewood III is located in a heritage and conservation area, which meant we had to be careful with every decision from day one. The existing home has real historical value, so it was important to keep its character intact.
At the same time, the clients wanted a home that actually works for modern living, something contemporary, practical, comfortable, and easy to live in.
So the goal was simple: respect the old, but make it work for today.
Getting that balance right isn’t always simple. It takes a thoughtful approach to make sure the design meets council requirements without losing sight of what the client actually wants.
Our Approach: 3D Modelling for Council Alignment to gain Heritage DA Approval Success
For this project, clear communication made all the difference.
We used detailed 3D modelling to show exactly how the new extension would sit alongside the original house. This helped everyone, both the client and the council, understand the design straight away and feel confident moving forward.
We also leaned on our experience with local planning rules and heritage requirements. By knowing what councils look for, we were able to stay one step ahead, address issues early, and keep things moving without unnecessary delays.
Every part of the design was carefully worked through to make sure it ticked all the right boxes, while still delivering a great outcome.
The Result: A Streamlined Approval Process
We’re really pleased to have secured DA approval for Creewood III. It’s a strong result and one that reflects both good planning and good design.
But more importantly, the client walked away feeling confident about the whole process.
“As this was my first time building, I expected the heritage requirements to be complex, but the team made the entire process feel straightforward... Their ability to balance council expectations with a practical and well-designed outcome was genuinely impressive.”

That’s what we aim for every time. Making something that could feel complicated, feel manageable.
