THE BRIEF
Salt Street House involved a major heritage renovation and rear extension to a character home in Concord. The owners wanted to improve space, functionality and everyday living while preserving the heritage significance and architectural character of the original residence within a sensitive Canada Bay Council heritage setting.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
The design response required careful heritage planning, council negotiation and detailed architectural drafting to achieve Development Application approval. A contemporary rear extension was integrated behind the original home, improving liveability and family functionality while respecting the scale, form and heritage value of the existing building. Passive solar design principles were incorporated through high-performance glazing, thermal mass and northern solar control to improve natural light and year-round comfort. Particular attention was also given to construction detailing so the new and original elements worked together seamlessly.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Following an extensive approval process with Canada Bay Council, Salt Street House was successfully completed and later recognised for excellence in heritage building design, construction quality and residential renovation. The project delivered improved family living, enhanced functionality and a substantial increase in property value while carefully preserving the home's original character. The completed renovation ultimately achieved a record-setting sale, demonstrating the long-term value of high-quality heritage renovation and extension design.
