Our Sustainable Home Design Portfolio
Examples of our sustainble home design work are shown below. These projects show how different sites, client briefs, planning controls, sustainability requirements and lifestyle needs can lead to very different design outcomes.
With over 30 years of building design and architectural drafting experience and a Master of Design Science (Sustainable Design) from the University of Sydney, we bring a deep technical foundation to every project. We apply fundamental sustainable principles to all our work, focusing on elements within our control. By prioritising site orientation, cross-ventilation, thermal performance, and the integration of solar and recycled materials, we create homes that are noticeably more comfortable to live in.
While project budgets and specific design constraints dictate the scope, our goal is to achieve these high-comfort outcomes without significantly increasing build costs. Where we have full design freedom, the outcomes are exceptional. Projects like Verandah House and Creewood House demonstrate the high standards achievable through this approach.
Our Design & Planning Process
Site-Specific Orientation
We map the site to capture natural light and seasonal breezes, positioning living spaces to improve year-round comfort.
Passive Solar Planning
Room placement and glazing are arranged to manage solar gain, improving the internal environment across all seasons.
Thermal Performance
We focus on the building fabric, using material selection and construction detailing to enhance the home's thermal resilience.
Natural Ventilation
Our layouts encourage cross-ventilation, providing a direct connection to the outdoor environment and fresh air.
Resource Efficiency
We integrate recycled materials and sustainable resources, ensuring the design remains responsive to the landscape and local context.
Our Design & Planning Process
Site Review & Feasibility
We review land, zoning, setbacks, slope, access, orientation, privacy, bushfire considerations, and planning controls early to identify opportunities and risks.
Luxury Home Custom Design
We create designs that respond to your lifestyle, block, views, family needs, and long-term plans. The aim is a home that feels considered, functional, and appropriate for the site.
Architectural Drafting for Sustainable Homes
We prepare technical plans, including floor plans, elevations, sections, site planning, roof forms, and external materials required for assessment and construction.
DA & CDC Approval Pathway Support
We assess whether your project is best suited to a Development Application or Complying Development Certificate and coordinate supporting information for council, certifier, and consultant review.
BASIX & Sustainable Design
Sustainability is integrated from the early design stage, addressing solar orientation, shading, ventilation, glazing, insulation, thermal comfort, water efficiency, and BASIX requirements.
Consultant & Construction Coordination
We manage relevant consultants (engineers, surveyors, bushfire consultants) and develop detailed drawings to move your project from design concept towards construction.
Interior Detailing & Finishes
We help resolve kitchens, bathrooms, joinery, fixtures, and finishes before construction pricing begins, providing your builder with clear information for a cohesive custom home.
