This project in Mulgoa was one of those that really challenged and inspired me. It wasn't just about the architecture; it was about navigating a 25-acre site with some of the strictest constraints you can find in Western Sydney.

From the beginning, we had to carefully manage Bushfire Flame Zone requirements, protect local flora and fauna, and respect areas of Aboriginal significance. On top of that, we worked within tight building envelope restrictions and held consultations with the local Progress Committee to ensure the design sat right with the community.

My goal was to create a home that felt grounded in the landscape but still made a modern architectural statement. It had to be a place that belonged to the land, not just sat on top of it. Working closely with the Council and the committee meant every design decision was a balance of compliance and creativity.

The result was incredibly rewarding. Not only did we meet every single requirement, but the home was also recognized with an Award of Excellence and a win for Custom Designed Homes. For me, this project is a perfect example of what residential building design in NSW should be, thoughtful, sustainable, and a direct response to its unique setting.
