THE BRIEF
The brief was to create a bespoke acreage residence providing generous family accommodation, premium lifestyle amenities and a strong connection to the surrounding rural landscape. The owners wanted a timeless French Provincial home with four spacious bedrooms, multiple living areas, a swimming pool, separate pool cabana and extensive outdoor entertaining. The design also needed to respond to the property's bushfire requirements and incorporate a high level of sustainable performance.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
The building design and architectural drafting focused on creating a substantial French Provincial residence suited to its rural Camden setting while maintaining practical connections between the home, landscape and outdoor entertaining areas. The residence incorporates four spacious bedrooms, multiple living zones, a custom swimming pool, separate pool cabana and integrated outdoor entertaining spaces. Careful site planning was used to organise the building and external areas as a cohesive acreage property. The design also responded to the site's BAL-12.5 bushfire requirements, including bushfire-rated glazing and stainless-steel mesh protection to weep holes and other building penetrations. Passive solar design principles were incorporated throughout the home, together with 200 kL of underground water storage, a 40 kW photovoltaic system and two storage batteries. The home achieved a 6.6-star NatHERS energy rating.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Crawford Creek House combines the character and scale of a French Provincial acreage home with practical family living, extensive outdoor entertaining and measurable environmental performance. The completed residence provides strong connections between the main living areas, swimming pool, cabana and surrounding landscape while incorporating BAL-12.5 bushfire protection and substantial sustainability measures. The result is a large custom family home designed specifically for its rural site, environmental conditions and long-term use.
