THE BRIEF
The owners wanted additional living space and improved functionality while retaining the heritage significance of the original dwelling and its contribution to the surrounding streetscape. The challenge was to create a contemporary family home that respected the existing house, neighbourhood character and Heritage Conservation Area controls.
DESIGN RESPONSE
The design introduced a contemporary rear extension that provides open-plan living, improved natural light and stronger connections to outdoor spaces without compromising the heritage value of the original residence. Extensive planning advice and early design consultation helped balance the owners' lifestyle objectives with heritage requirements, resulting in a well-resolved proposal that progressed smoothly through the Development Application process. Ongoing involvement during construction ensured the approved design intent was maintained through to completion.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Creewood II House demonstrates how heritage renovations and contemporary home extensions can successfully balance modern family living with heritage preservation. The completed project delivers bright, practical and highly functional living spaces while maintaining the architectural character of both the original home and the surrounding Concord streetscape.
