THE BRIEF
The objective across these projects was to create two well-planned homes that make efficient use of the available land without compromising everyday liveability. Key considerations included separate entries, vehicle access, privacy between dwellings, natural light, private open space and creating a cohesive street presentation while giving each home its own identity.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
Each duplex was developed around the opportunities and constraints of its individual site. Building footprints, garages, entries, living areas, private open spaces and window locations were carefully coordinated to balance privacy, solar access and efficient use of land. Architectural drafting and approval documentation were then developed around the relevant planning controls, creating paired dwellings that are practical to live in, straightforward to build and well resolved from the street.
PROJECT OUTCOME
This collection demonstrates our experience designing duplex developments across a variety of Sydney residential sites. The completed projects show how careful planning can create two functional and individually liveable homes while achieving efficient land use, strong street presentation and a considered architectural relationship between the paired dwellings.
