THE BRIEF
The owners initially approached the project as an internal renovation, but the design developed into a much broader transformation of the existing home. The brief expanded to include a private new master suite, improved family living spaces and a stronger relationship between the residence, outdoor entertaining areas, swimming pool and surrounding acreage.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
A new upper level was introduced to create a private master suite with ensuite, dressing room and balcony overlooking the pool and cabana. At ground level, the existing floor plan was extensively reorganised and extended to improve circulation and create more functional family living areas. New alfresco, deck and patio spaces strengthened the connection between the house and its acreage setting. The design was also developed to respond to the property's BAL-29 bushfire requirements, with the Bushfire Risk Assessment confirming compliance with the Bushfire Risk Assessment confirming compliance with Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Hidden Valley House demonstrates how an existing acreage residence can be substantially transformed while also responding to bushfire planning requirements. The completed design provides a private upper-level master retreat, improved family living areas and stronger connections between the residence, outdoor entertaining spaces, pool and rural landscape.
