THE BRIEF
The owners initially sought an internal renovation, however site analysis revealed an opportunity to significantly improve the home's relationship with its acreage environment. The brief expanded to include better orientation, improved views, enhanced natural ventilation and more functional living spaces suited to relaxed rural family living.
DESIGN RESPONSE
The design centred on reconnecting the home with the Mulgoa Valley outlook. Living areas were reoriented to capture panoramic views, maximise northern sunlight and improve cross-ventilation throughout the home. The renovation extended and reshaped key living spaces, creating a brighter, more open and better connected residence that responds directly to its acreage setting.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Hidden Valley House demonstrates how thoughtful building design can transform an existing home beyond its original limitations. Despite a challenging council approval process, the completed renovation successfully delivered a light-filled acreage residence with improved views, natural ventilation and stronger connections to the surrounding landscape, creating a home that feels integrated with the land rather than simply positioned upon it.
