THE BRIEF

The brief was to create a luxury family home that responded to the unique challenges of a Blue Mountains bushfire site while capturing mountain views and maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. The owners wanted a residence that combined premium finishes, energy-efficient design and long-term durability within a BAL-40 environment.

THE DESIGN RESPONSE

The building design and architectural drafting carefully addressed BAL-40 bushfire requirements through material selection, construction detailing and site-responsive planning. Passive solar design principles, solar orientation, natural light optimisation and energy-efficient glazing were incorporated to improve year-round comfort and reduce energy demand. The design balanced bushfire resilience, sustainability and luxury living while complementing the character of the Blue Mountains setting.  A detailed Schedule of Finishes was also prepared by Distinct Innovations to coordinate materials, fixtures and finishes throughout the home.

PROJECT OUTCOME

Mt Riverview House demonstrates how luxury custom home design can succeed on a highly constrained bushfire-prone site. The completed residence delivers exceptional comfort, strong environmental performance, mountain views and long-term resilience while maintaining a refined architectural outcome. The project stands as a benchmark for sustainable luxury home design in the Blue Mountains.
