THE BRIEF
The brief was to create a custom new home that made better use of the sloping block, captured natural light and views, and provided a practical layout for everyday family life. The owners wanted a modern Northern Beaches residence with a high-quality finish, improved liveability and a design response tailored to the constraints of the site.
DESIGN RESPONSE
The design used the slope, orientation and available views to shape the building layout, with open living areas planned to connect naturally to outdoor spaces. Architectural drafting, Development Application documentation and council liaison with Northern Beaches Council supported the approval pathway, while sustainable design principles, natural light, cross-flow ventilation and coastal material selections helped create a refined, site-specific home.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Wheeler Heights House demonstrates how a well-planned knockdown rebuild can unlock the potential of a constrained Northern Beaches site. The completed residence combines contemporary coastal design, improved functionality, premium finishes and better indoor-outdoor connections, delivering a high-quality family home tailored to the owners’ lifestyle and the local setting.
