THE BRIEF
The owners required additional floor space and improved family living without losing the home's established street appeal. The brief included a modern upper-storey addition, improved internal planning and enhanced outdoor entertaining areas while respecting the character of the original residence.
DESIGN RESPONSE
To support council approval and minimise visual impact, the upper-storey addition was positioned toward the rear of the home, allowing the original front façade to remain the dominant streetscape element. Internal spaces were reconfigured to improve functionality and circulation, while a custom-designed pool pergola strengthened the connection between the indoor living areas, outdoor entertaining spaces and rear yard. The result is a cohesive extension that feels integrated rather than added on.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Castle Hill House demonstrates how residential extensions and upper-storey additions can substantially increase living space while maintaining street appeal and neighbourhood character. The completed renovation delivers improved family functionality, modern outdoor living and a refined architectural outcome that feels like a natural evolution of the original home.
