THE BRIEF
The owners required additional floor space and improved family living without losing the home's established street appeal. The brief included a modern upper-storey addition, improved internal planning and enhanced outdoor entertaining areas while respecting the character of the original residence.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
The upper-storey addition was positioned toward the rear of the existing home, allowing the original front facade to remain the dominant streetscape element while satisfying the applicable complying development requirements.
Internal spaces were reconfigured to improve functionality and circulation, while a custom-designed pool pergola strengthened the connection between the indoor living areas, outdoor entertaining spaces and rear yard. The new work was designed to integrate with the existing residence rather than appear as a separate addition.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Castle Hill House demonstrates how a residential extension and upper-storey addition can substantially increase living space while retaining the established street presentation of the original home. The completed project delivers improved family functionality, contemporary outdoor living and a cohesive architectural relationship between the existing residence and new work.
