This award-winning renovation in Leichhardt highlights exactly how a narrow, heritage-restricted site can be reimagined into a bright and highly functional family home. As a Sydney building designer specializing in complex alterations and additions, our goal was to breathe new life into this traditional terrace while strictly adhering to local heritage guidelines.
The transformation centered on creating a sense of space that feels much larger than the original footprint. We introduced a generous master suite and an intimate internal courtyard, which serves a dual purpose: it acts as a private retreat and draws natural light deep into the center of the home. We also focused on the flow between the indoors and the new outdoor entertainment area, ensuring the home is ready for year-round use.
Inside, we used clever built-in storage and improved sightlines to elevate the day-to-day practicality of the house. Every detail was a careful blend of old and new architecture, ensuring we celebrated the historic character of the Inner West while delivering the contemporary, bespoke lifestyle the homeowners needed. It’s a project that proves even the most constrained sites can become spacious, stylish, and award-winning homes.
