THE BRIEF
The owners wanted a modern custom home that maximised every square metre of a small inner-city site while remaining affordable, energy-efficient and practical for everyday living. The design needed to create a strong sense of space and light without exceeding the site's physical constraints.
DESIGN RESPONSE
The home was planned around principles of small lot housing, passive solar design and spatial efficiency. Clean architectural forms, open-plan living areas and carefully positioned glazing maximise natural light and improve the perception of space throughout the home. Strategic window placement enhances privacy while supporting natural ventilation and energy efficiency. A restrained material palette was selected to deliver a contemporary architectural outcome that remained practical and cost-effective.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Hill St House demonstrates how thoughtful building design can transform a compact urban site into a spacious, functional and sustainable family home. The completed residence delivers excellent natural light, efficient use of space, strong environmental performance and contemporary architectural character while proving that small lot housing can achieve both design quality and everyday liveability.
