Project Overview
Hill St House is an award-winning custom home in Leichhardt that shows how intelligent architecture can transform a compact 327m² small lot into a highly functional, stylish and efficient family home. As a Sydney building designer experienced in small lot housing, the goal was to maximise every square metre while keeping the project practical, cost-conscious and sustainable.
Small Lot Design & Spatial Efficiency
Winning the National Award for Small Lot Housing, the design focused on a refined balance of simplicity and efficiency. The architecture uses bold cubic forms, clean lines and a carefully planned internal layout to ensure no space is wasted. An open-plan arrangement helps create a smooth flow between rooms, making the home feel more generous and liveable despite the compact urban site.
Passive Solar Design & Urban Privacy
A major focus was creating an energy-efficient home without compromising the modern architectural aesthetic. Through passive solar design principles and strategic window placement, the home brings in generous natural light while maintaining privacy from neighbouring properties. The restrained material palette keeps the home contemporary and cost-effective, while supporting a strong architectural identity suited to the Leichhardt setting.
