Nepean House | Penrith
Project Overview
Nepean House is a custom home on the Nepean River in Penrith, designed to take full advantage of its water outlook and Blue Mountains views while responding carefully to the environmental challenges of the site. Beyond the scenery, the home needed to perform in Western Sydney’s climate, providing comfort through hot summers and cold winters while delivering the level of luxury, openness and lifestyle appeal the owners wanted.
Flood Planning & Site Constraints
Before the design work began, pre-lodgement meetings were held with the head of planning to assess the site’s environmental constraints, particularly the serious risk of flooding. Flood reports were prepared early so the floor levels and layout could be positioned safely above potential floodwaters. This upfront planning proved highly valuable, with the home remaining completely unaffected during recent significant Nepean River flood events.
Solar Orientation & Sustainable Design
Using sustainable design principles, the home was planned to maximise winter sun in the living spaces while blocking out harsh summer heat. This helped improve year-round comfort and reduced reliance on artificial heating and cooling. The design carefully balances solar orientation, outlook, natural light and liveability, ensuring the home responds intelligently to both the riverfront setting and the Western Sydney climate.
Entertaining, Views & Family Living
The home was designed as an entertainer’s residence, with large flowing living areas that create a relaxed sense of casual comfort. High-quality finishes, generous spaces and carefully resolved detailing give the home a refined but liveable character, while the views across the Nepean River and toward the Blue Mountains help anchor the home strongly to its Penrith location.
