THE BRIEF
The owners wanted to renovate and modernise an ageing cottage while retaining the advantages of its riverfront location. The brief focused on improving space, natural light, internal flow and everyday family living while creating a home better suited to contemporary lifestyles.
DESIGN RESPONSE
The renovation involved substantial reconfiguration of the existing floor plan to overcome the limitations of the original 1970s layout. Internal spaces were opened up to improve circulation, natural light and connectivity between living areas. Careful design planning maximised available space while strengthening the home's relationship with its Nepean River setting, creating a more welcoming and functional family environment.
PROJECT OUTCOME
River Road Villa House demonstrates how building design and architectural drafting can unlock the potential of an older home without the need for a complete rebuild. The completed renovation delivers improved functionality, contemporary family living, stronger indoor-outdoor connections and a modern architectural character that responds naturally to its Leonay and Nepean River surroundings.
