THE BRIEF
The owners wanted to expand and modernise a heritage-listed home while retaining its original character and street appeal. The brief required additional living space, improved family functionality and contemporary interiors that respected the heritage significance of the existing residence.
DESIGN RESPONSE
A carefully considered contemporary rear addition was designed to sit comfortably behind the original dwelling, allowing the heritage façade and streetscape character to remain intact. The new layout introduced open-plan living, improved circulation and stronger connections to outdoor areas while maintaining a clear distinction between the heritage home and the contemporary extension. Particular attention was given to residential interior design, creating warm, practical and light-filled spaces for everyday family living.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Strathfield House demonstrates how heritage renovations and contemporary home extensions can successfully balance preservation with modern lifestyle requirements. The completed project delivered a spacious, functional family home while protecting the property's heritage value, architectural character and long-term appeal.
