Creewood III House

Project Overview

Creewood III House is another successful heritage renovation project on Creewood Street in Concord.

Located within a heritage and conservation area, the project required careful design consideration from the very beginning. The existing home had important historical character, while the clients wanted a contemporary, practical and comfortable home suited to modern family living.  The design challenge was to respect the original Federation-era character while creating a rear extension that improved everyday function, natural light and open-plan living.

Heritage Design & Modern Living

The goal was simple: respect the old while making the home work for today. This meant balancing the historical integrity of the existing dwelling with a contemporary rear addition that felt practical, sympathetic and carefully resolved. Every part of the design was considered to ensure the new work responded to the conservation area setting while still delivering a high-performance modern lifestyle.

3D Modelling & Council Alignment

A key part of this project was the use of detailed 3D modelling. The 3D model helped clearly show how the proposed rear extension would sit alongside the original home. This made it easier for both the clients and council to understand the design intent, assess the relationship between old and new, and move forward with confidence.

By combining 3D visualisation with our understanding of local planning controls and heritage requirements, we were able to address potential issues early and support a smoother DA approval process.

Development Application Approval

Creewood III achieved Development Application approval through Canada Bay Council, continuing our strong record with heritage-sensitive projects in this Concord conservation area. This is the third heritage extension we have successfully had approved on Creewood Street, following Creewood I and Creewood II. Creewood I was also recognised through multiple design awards, including heritage and adaptive reuse awards, Canada Bay Council recognition and a feature in The Daily Telegraph Home Magazine.

Client Outcome

For the client, the heritage requirements initially felt complex, particularly as it was their first building project.

However, the process became clear and manageable through careful guidance, transparent communication and a well-considered design approach. The client later described the team’s ability to balance council expectations with a practical and well-designed outcome as genuinely impressive.

Project Outcome

Creewood III House is a strong example of how thoughtful design, 3D modelling and early council-aware planning can help achieve a smooth heritage DA approval. The result is a sympathetic rear extension that respects the home’s historical character while providing the modern lifestyle, open-plan living and everyday functionality the clients wanted.
